Detenice

Dětenice, placed in beautiful area of Bohemia called „the Bohemian Paradise“ lies 70 km northeast of Prague. Chateau resort offers visit of late-Baroque Chateau, medieval brewery and restaurant. The history of Dětenice chateau dates back to the 11th century. It was built under the rule of Oldřich of the Přemyslid Dynasty. Visiting the chateau you can see preserved Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque frescos and wall paintings. You can find also stucco decoration from the Rococo and Classicism periods and enjoy collections of pictures and weapons. In the English park, many rare old trees and scrubs could be seen (some of them are about 400 years old). The first reference to the brewing of beer in Dětenice dates back to the year 1307 under the rule of Beneš of Dětenice and Valdštejn. For centuries the Dětenice chateau beer was a jewel in the crown of Bohemian beers. After years in 2000 it was bought over by new owners. They reintroduced the tradition production of beer according to the ancient and miraculous recipe of the rapacious knight Arthur, returning the brewery to its original state in the process. Now you can admire the wonderful historic cellars, including the commemorative Old Cellar with its Baroque vaulting that was re-added. This is now home to a Medieval tavern. You can witness the production of the fairytale beer of love with your own eyes, just as it was done in days gone by. Thanks to this, a unique historic method of beermaking in the modern age, you too can taste the beer that our forefathers drank. A special historical programme such as jugglers shows, fakir with fire and snake show, medieval live music and dancers takes place here at these historical premises. Medieval dinner – feast – is served from the fireplace right to your table and the only cutlery you will need is your hands. A staff dressed in historical costumes will be looking for your entertainment the whole evening.
